Integrative medicine is an approach to medical care that combines conventional medicine with complimentary and alternative (CAM) medicine. Complementary and alternative medicine and therapies usually consists of mind-body interventions and body somantics. It is not common for health care providers and facilities to offer both types of medicine to musicians who are experiencing injuries, yet musicians often seek alternative forms of medicine in their efforts to recover, and there are several musicians who specialize in alternative or complimentary forms of medicine or therapy. Mind-Body Interventions and Somatic Therapy goes well beyond just treating the mind — it also treats the body and the nervous system. If you feel like a complimentary or alternative form of medicine or therapy might help you, please reach out to a licensed mental health professional with specialized training in these techniques.
